Whelan Energy Center Unit 2

Whelan Energy Center Unit 2 (WEC2) is a 220 MW, pulverized coal-fired generating plant located near Hastings, Nebraska. The project, which came online in 2011, is owned by Public Power Generating Agency (PPGA), an interlocal agency established in NE for the sole purpose of constructing and operating WEC2. NIMECA has a life of unit purchase power agreement for a 20 MW share of Whelan 2 with Heartland Consumers Power District, one of the PPGA partners. The energy produced by Whelan 2 is shared by the NIMECA capacity sharing participants.
